New-ish Hobby

I have taken on a "new" hobby full force. It's always been something I like doing, but haven't really known what I'm doing exactly and I always feel like I need Michael's help with it. But... I have been reading up on other blogs of how other people do it- I've picked up the exact products they use and I'm giving it a try myself. I have to say my first project I was ECSTATIC over!! Take a look:

I'm also branching out by doing white furniture (I know, so brave right??). I've always painted my pieces black and so this time I am painting some furniture ivory and then trying a new technique- glazing (black). LOVE IT!! I think it gives so much character to furniture. Anyway, it's been a lot of fun. Each week I pick up a piece (or two, or three, or four) at garage sales and now my garage is packed full with pieces needing to be refinished. My mom said to be able to stay on top of it I should aim to finish as many pieces a week that I pick up on the weekend. So that's my goal right now. I picked up two pieces on Saturday and I am in the middle of working on my 3rd piece for the week. So, not too bad. I'll do some more before and after pictures as they are finished, but it's been a lot of fun. And hopefully I'll get REALLY brave and paint some bright fun colors- other then black and white!! I kind of have my eye on a bright grass green color... we'll see if I do anything with it!

You are brave!! I would love to see the finished products!! I am really enjoying the glazing process- it's messy and quick! BUT it definately gives a certain look- almost antique like. It makes all of the details pop though which I love!! I just went to home depot and got a clear glaze and had them add black to it. After I've primed (with kilz spray) and spray painted the piece, then I "paint" the piece with the glaze VERY SLOPPY but make sure to get all of the details- grooves and other things really well and then wipe it off a few minutes later with a damp rag. I repeat that process a few times in certain areas to make sure there is enough glaze on the details. Anyway- like I said I'm REALLY new to this but am having fun with it. Can't wait to see your pieces!!
